Infrastructures Don’t Work Alone: ELIXIR, EATRIS and BBMRI as a Case Study in Life Science Collaboration
Prof. RNDr. Jiří Vondrášek, Ph.D. is Head of the Bioinformatics Group at the Institute of Organic Chemistry and Biochemistry of the Czech Academy of Sciences (IOCB Prague) and Head of ELIXIR CZ, the Czech node of the European life science research infrastructure ELIXIR. He received his degree in Biophysics from Charles University in Prague and completed his Ph.D. in Biochemistry at IOCB Prague. His international research experience includes appointments at the University of Geneva, Goethe University Frankfurt, and the U.S. National Cancer Institute (NCI) in Frederick, Maryland.
His research integrates structural bioinformatics, computational biology, molecular modeling, and molecular simulations to investigate the relationships between biomolecular sequence, structure, dynamics, and function. His group develops computational methods for studying proteins, protein interactions, intrinsically disordered proteins, and biomolecular evolution, while contributing to European bioinformatics infrastructures and biological databases. He has authored more than 200 scientific publications and serves as Associate Editor of Biochemistry and Biophysics Reports and the International Journal of Molecular Sciences. In addition to his research, he has taught bioinformatics and molecular modeling at Charles University and the University of Chemistry and Technology in Prague for over two decades and has supervised numerous graduate and doctoral students.
