Where Did This Aliquot Come From? Building Provenance Data Flows in an Academic Biobank

Helmuth Haslacher is Extraordinary Professor of Laboratory Medicine at the Medical University of Vienna. He heads the hematology laboratory of the Department of Laboratory Medicine at Vienna General Hospital (AKH Wien) and directs the liquid collections of the MedUni Wien Biobank, an ISO 9001:2015 certified academic biobank and part of the BBMRI.at national node. He serves as National Node Director of BBMRI.at, the Austrian node of BBMRI-ERIC, and holds a co-lead role in BBMRI-ERIC Strategic Objective 8.2. His clinical and scientific work bridges routine diagnostics and research infrastructure: quality management and preanalytical stability in biobanking, digital morphology and flow cytometry in hematological diagnostics, as well as biomarker research in various diseases. He is co-investigator in large-scale clinical studies, teaches at pre- and postgraduate level, and supervises theses in laboratory medicine. So far, Haslacher has authored more than 170 pubmed-listed publications.
