Drug Repurposing: New Opportunities for Personalized Medicine
Prof. Dr. Irena Mlinarič-Raščan, MPharm, is Full Professor, Principal Investigator and Departmental leader at the Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Ljubljana, where she served as Dean for two mandates. She is the National Director of EATRIS.SI. She completed postdoctoral fellowships at Mount Sinai Hospital, Toronto, and the University of Tokyo, and has been a visiting professor at the Universities of Bern and Vienna.
Her research focuses on personalized medicine, pharmacogenomics, molecular pharmacology and drug repurposing, particularly in leukemia and lymphoma. Her work addresses interindividual variability in drug response and the development of personalized therapeutic strategies, including pharmacogenomics-guided thiopurine therapy. Her group investigates novel therapeutic targets and signaling pathways, including the proteasome and immunoproteasome, and their potential for targeted drug development and repurposing. Current research combines computational drug repurposing with experimental validation to identify novel therapeutic opportunities in hematological malignancies.
She participates in European research initiatives strengthening translational research infrastructures and developing innovative approaches to personalized medicine and drug repurposing, fostering collaboration among academia, research infrastructures, healthcare, industry and patients.
